New from Another Document (Template)

Here’s a support request I’d like to share.

Request
I need to create a new project. Is there a way to use information already present in another project without starting from scratch?
Is it better to use an existing file?

Answer
Edificius offers the New from Another Document (Template) feature, which allows you to create a new document based on an existing file, either on your PC or on usBIM.cloud, using it as a template.

How to Proceed
  • Go to the Edificius Home
  • Select the option New from Another Document (Template)
  • Locate the file you want to use as a reference (it can be on your PC or on usBIM.cloud)

Questions

  • Which information is actually transferred?

The new document retains 2D entities and all general project settings from the file used as a template:
General Data, Level Management, Graphic Sheets, Terrain Levels, System Data, Default Entities, Plans, Floor Plans, Sections, Elevations, Tables, and Schedules.

  • Does the file also include parametric elements like stratigraphies, doors, windows, or custom objects created in the original project?

Yes. Elements from the project's BIM object library that are associated with default entities are transferred.
For example, if you insert a wall, the property toolbox will display the last selections made in the original file (stratigraphies, materials, etc.). Consequently, these elements will also be available in the library of the new project.
