Stiffness in the event of cracking (for seismic calculation)

TonyC 2017-01-23 12:03:46

I'm opening this new thread to share a technical support case with our EdiLus users.

QUESTION
How do I consider a reduction in stiffness to consider the effects of cracking on the various structural elements in a seismic calculation?

ANSWER
In the Reinforced Concrete and Masonry characteristics of the materials in the "Percentage of Normal modulus for Seismic Analysis" field in which you can enter a percentage of the elastic modulus (E) and tangential (G) value which will be used to take into account the the effects of cracking in the calculation of seismic actions.

Eurocode 8 states that the stiffness of the elements must be reduced by 50%.

in order to achieve this in Edilus we have to change both the "percentage of Normal Elastic Modulus for Seismic Analysis" and the "Tangential Elastic Modulus"?

You can reduce stiffness by modifying the "subject" field of the present post considering that you can operate on both "E" and "G" elastic modulus'.
