The Use of the Object Grip

morisdidonato 2025-01-31 11:48:01

During the design phase, it is necessary to move, rotate, mirror, and resize an entity or create a group in the case of multiple selections.

For this reason, Edificius provides 2 types of Object Grips that are easy to use:
  • 2D Object Grip, usable in two-dimensional environments (Levels, Graphic Tables, Executive Tables, etc.);
  • 3D Object Grip, usable in 3D Views.

Object Grips will be displayed when selecting one or more entities.

The 2D Object Grip

1. Move the Anchor Point Click HERE
To perform the following operations, you can choose an anchor point;
To do so, simply click on the lock icon to release the Object Grip and place it at another point.
The anchor points will attract the Object Grip to simplify the operation.

2. Move/Rotate
When selecting a single object or a group of objects, the Object Grip will activate.
By default, the Move/Rotate command is selected, allowing translation/rotation in the XY plane.
To move, simply click the mouse on the yellow anchor point at the center of the Object Grip and click again to position the object(s).
By selecting the arrows instead, movement is constrained along the axis.
To rotate, simply click the mouse on one of the 4 yellow anchor points at the vertices of the Object Grip and click again to specify the rotation.

Rotate with Reference Click HERE
By selecting the green arc, you can choose a different rotation axis; this function is essential when the object in the plan is inclined concerning the main reference system axes.
An example of its use is aligning the Terrain downloaded from Maps with the modeled building.

3. Mirror Click HERE
The mirror function allows mirroring the object concerning the two axes, so simply clicking on the small triangles on the Object Grip will achieve the desired result.

4. Resize Click HERE
This activates for objects that can be resized.
To modify the dimensions, simply click on the appropriate button and drag the anchor point; it is also possible to define the measurement via the keyboard.

5. Groups
The button with the three dots "..." allows the creation/management of groups.
By selecting multiple objects, such as multiple 3D blocks, you can group them and create a collection.

The 3D Object Grip

The 3D Object Grip includes some functionalities that replicate operations performed in the two-dimensional XY plane within a three-dimensional reference system (XYZ).

Directional Cube
The directional cube activates when one or more entities are selected, allowing free rotation in three-dimensional space.

Rotation Around Axes Click HERE
By selecting a face of the directional cube, you can indicate the plane on which to operate.
For example, clicking on the top or bottom face of the cube allows operations on the XY plane, enabling rotation around the Z-axis.

Move in Space
To move one or more entities in space, simply click on the yellow anchor point at the center of the Object Grip.

Move in the Plane
To move one or more entities in the plane while keeping the Z fixed, for example, simply click on the blue circular ring at the center of the Object Grip.

Object Grip in MEP Click HERE
For some MEP entities, such as pipelines, the directional cube is not displayed by default; it can be activated by clicking on the icon with the three Cartesian axes.
