User_1839103 | Column entity deleting itself when connected to other column.User_1839103 2024-07-01 09:27:43 I have got an issue for a column modelling. When I draw a column entity connecting to the other column, the earlier one gets automatically deleted and the next one is drawn at the selected position. I cannot draw a two/multiple columns at a position where such combination or entity connection is available in architectural drawings. So, could you help me in this problem, I have attached my modeling file and a recording. 884094_1719818270_4_flats.edf884094_1719818298_column_entity_error.rar |
Tony | Tony 2024-07-01 11:05:00 When modeling structural columns in a BIM environment, it’s important to understand that having two adjacent column entities can often lead to conflicts or redundant elements in the model. This can explain why you're experiencing the issue where one column entity deletes itself when you try to connect it to another. Here’s a detailed explanation and a recommended solution: Why This Happens: When two columns are placed adjacent to each other in a model, the software might recognize this as an overlap or redundancy. Structural modeling tools are designed to maintain logical and efficient representations of building elements. Thus, having two distinct column entities in the same location can confuse the model, leading to one being automatically removed to preserve model integrity. Recommended Solution: Instead of modeling two distinct columns at the same location, you should consider shaping the column profile in 2D and then raising it to the desired height. However, given the specifics of your case, it seems that you might be trying to model walls using columns (configured as concrete shear walls). A better approach is to use the "Vertical Building Envelope" tool. This tool provides more flexibility and accuracy for your requirements. Here’s how you can proceed: 1. Use the Vertical Building Envelope Tool: - This tool allows for more advanced modeling options, including shaping and modifying walls in both 2D and 3D. - It provides the ability to extend and manipulate wall profiles more freely, which is ideal for creating complex structural elements like shear walls. 2. Assign Material Layers: - Once you have modeled the walls using the Vertical Building Envelope tool, you can assign the Reinforced Concrete material layer from the Material Layers category in the BIM library. - This ensures that your walls are not only structurally accurate but also properly categorized and detailed within your BIM model. Steps to Implement: 1. Activate the Vertical Building Envelope Tool in your BIM software. 2. Draw the Wall Profile: Define the shape and dimensions of your wall in 2D. 3. Raise the Profile: Extend the wall profile to the required height in 3D. 4. Assign Material Layer: Go to the Material Layers category in your BIM library and assign the Reinforced Concrete layer to the wall. Material Layers By following these steps, you will have a more efficient and accurate representation of your structural elements. This approach avoids the redundancy of having two adjacent columns and provides the necessary flexibility for complex wall structures. Tony | Tony 2024-07-02 12:24:23 Here's a quick example of how to model your Envelope Entities using the Vertical Wall objects instead of Fixed profiles. Once you have created to correct elements through simple modelling, you can then assign the material Layers according to the BIM methodology. Regards |
Tony | Tony 2024-07-02 15:20:49 If you have 2 or more adjacent Columns, it's actually quite normal that they get cancelled out. Can't you create a New Section which is the sum of the columns? Instead of arranging two or more columns, simply create a New Profile section of the right dimension. In Edificius, you can't position 2 columns side by side. VIDEO EXAMPLE |
